Training
You may choose to undertake training at the Centre, from your place of work or even from home. The following courses are available and on successful completion of your chosen course you will receive a certificate.
The courses are ILA Scotland approved and you may get up to £200 towards the cost of learning.
Taking the first step
Beginner: Equalskills
This is a fun, informal and uncomplicated introduction to computers and the Internet. It shows you how to use the mouse and keyboard, access the internet and send and receive e-mail. The course gives you 15 hours of training at the IT Centre at a time to suit you.

Taking the next step
Elementary: Computer Literacy and Information Technology Level 1
This course is made up of a range of units. You have the option to study individual units or if you wish to achieve a level 1 certificate then you must complete a mandatory unit and two additional units. To achieve the full diploma then you must complete a mandatory unit and four additional units. Study options range from Word Processing to Spreadsheets and Databases, and from DeskTop Publishing to Image Manipulation. (It is not mandatory to take exams unless you require certification).

Taking a step further
Intermediate: European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)
The ECDL is a nationally recognised qualification which confirms to potential employers that a person has up-to-date skills. It will provide you with a solid foundation of computer skills helping you to competently and confidently use a computer. There are seven modules of study to complete the full qualification. However, candidates may choose to study individual modules which range from Word Processing to Databases and PowerPoint to Basic Concepts of IT.

Q: What are E-Learning Bytes?
A: Small pieces of learning you can access online
We have learning bytes covering a very wide range of topics which can be accessed online at the IT Centre or from any computer with a broadband internet connection, making learning possible at a time and place to suit you. These courses vary from 20 minutes to 12 hours of study. You will find a list of courses in our Learning Bytes catalogue at the Centre. Courses cover areas such as preparing a CV to interview skills, Customer Care to Tourism and Project Management to Health and Safety.
